Don Fredericks’ “Big Boys Cry” is a devastating ballad that has stopped many a Mau Mau dead in their tracks. Taken off the the touchstone “Lafayette Soul Show” release- a treasure trove of South Louisiana soul gems- “Cry” was originally recorded for the Louisianne label. It was penned by the late, great Bobby Charles, who recently went on to a better place before having to witness his beloved Gulf Coast despoiled with an ever-growing oil spill.
Fredericks vocally hails from the King Karl school of full-throated bellowers, as his performance here demonstrates. Rumored to have been a preacher, Fredericks is said to have passed away some time ago. His legacy in ensured with this slab o’ greatness- enjoy.
